Winter got you feelin’ some type of way? Don’t worry, this happens to many of us. Join me in kicking/ away those winter blues. Start by doing little things to improve your mood. What are these little things you can do? There are so many tiny changes you can make to shake seasonal sadness. Check them out:

Morning Meditation

I am not here to push spirituality on you or make you become a regular yogi. What I mean by morning mediation is to simply zen out for 2-4 minutes. So put away your phone and don’t hit snooze. Relax your mind and try to come up with your intention for the day. Your intention can be something as simple as not complaining about the weather. Your morning meditation can also consist of taking your mind to a nice warm island in the Caribbean, drinking fresh coconut water, and taking in healthy bouts of vitamin D. Now extract that energy from your meditation and use it throughout the day.

Take Vitamin D –

Vitamin D is essential to take in the winter months. It aids in absorbing calcium and is also helps boost weak immune systems. There are two ways of obtaining it by eating it and sun exposure. Sometimes in the winter it is impossible to stay outside for a prolonged period of time to catch rays. So the only other way to get vitamin D is by eating it. Seafood such as salmon, tuna and herring are great source. For vegetarians like me you can eat loads of mushrooms and eggs to get your daily dosage.

Protect Your Skin and Hair –

The winter months are notorious for sucking out moisture from your skin and hair. You have to take extra precaution so your skin does not crack and flake. Avoid products that contain petroleum jelly. While you may think this is hydrating your skin it is actually doing the exact opposite. Petroleum creates a barrier on your skin that does not let moisture seep through. Use products that are natural or have an oil base. For my body I use, Oriflame Optimals Body Smoothening Lotion – Avocado Oil, avocado is packed full of nourishing vitamins that help hydrate skin. My winter go to for face moisturizer is Andalou Naturals Coconut Milk Youth Firm Night Cream. Lastly, for hair I use, Saeed Ghani Coconut Oil. All this can be found shopping online at Just4Girls.pk.

Exercise –

It has been said time and time again that simply exercising for about 30 minutes a day can improve health and combat mild depression. This is due to increased blood flow to the brain and the release of endorphins – the body’s naturally made antidepressant. So go on then, get on that treadmill and walk it out.

Music –

Blasting your favorite tunes from the speakers can significantly improve your mood. Music has the ability to cheer you up and get you moving.

Go Outside –

Convincing yourself to go out in the winter is no easy task. Once you muster up the courage to go for a walk during the day or even clubbing at night with friends your mood will improve. Your focus will get sharper and even your stress levels can decrease. Get up, bundle up, and explore the outdoors — even if just for 15 minutes.
