Do you reel with anxiety every time you have to put something on your face? What I mean is, does your skin freak out when you wash it? Moisturize it? Etc.…? The fear is real, but it’s time to take that control back and not be intimidated by cleansers and moisturizers. You’re probably thinking how is this possible when my skin gets aggravated so easily? I have the solution to all your skin woes – Avène, a French skincare line that was created especially for people with sensitive and irritable skin. The origins of this brand are truly unique and sounds like something out of a fairy tale. To truly understand the brand and its roots I want to share Avène’s story.

The fairy tale beings nearly 300 years ago in southern France when horse belonging to nobleman, Marquis of Rocozles, was set loose due to a terribly severe skin disease. The horse roamed around until he stumbled upon a Saint Odile spring. The horse drank the water and swam all around in it. After a few weeks the horse appeared at the Marquis’ home again and its skin was like brand new and the disease was cured. The Marquis could not believe his eyes, and visited the spring, which is set on his land. Jump forward a decade and he opened thermal spring facility to help people who suffer from skin diseases such as: eczema, burns, psoriasis and more.

Move forward another century to the late 1800’s; now scientists and medical experts are thoroughly studying the water and its healing properties. Even the French government acknowledges the Avène Thermal Spring Water as a source of ‘public benefit’, and financially supported the Hydrotherapy Center. In 1975 a large pharmaceutical company purchased the center with the vision to make Avéne accessible to all. In 1990 the Avéne skincare brand was born. The brand stayed true to its origins and centered the skincare line on the thermal spring and the water’s natural healing abilities. In 2013 it was finally discovered that there is a unique micro-flora in the water, which is responsible for calming sensation of irritated skin. The micro-flora along with, minerals create a hydro-solution like nowhere else in the world.
