I always talk about the Korean beauty craze because, hot damn it has taken the cosmetic world by storm. Seriously, everything that is coming out of Korea is poppin’. Umm side note besides all the K-beauty that is coming out of the country, have you all seen the new BTS video and those dance moves? Yessir! I digress, but if you haven’t checked out K-pop music yet you are missing out on a world full of amazing music and dance. Ahh sorry for going off track, now back to skincare. I wanted to focus on the ‘glass skin’ trend, yes, the one that you see all over instagram.
Glass skin is more than just a crazy beauty trend post to put on your insta and facebook. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s the desire of your skin to look like and emulate – you guessed it, a piece of glass. The key to getting smooth, poreless and dewy skin aka glass skin is by following these steps:
Always Double-Cleanse –
This process refers to first using an oil based cleanser or balm then followed by a traditional foaming cleanser. Oil based cleansers work effectively by removing dirt and makeup from the face without being harsh. Oil based cleansers are gentle because they do not strip the skin of its natural oils. Try NYX Stripped Off Cleansing Balm (PKR 2,499), its creamy formula is amazing and removes all traces of makeup. After you have rinsed off all the balm, follow with a traditional cleanser. I use, Evoluderm Exfoliating Cleansing Gel (PKR 1,000), the small beads remove everything the balm missed plus the smell is incredible.
Toner Is Essential –
When searching for toner it needs to be a hydrating formula. According to Insider.com, Korean brand toners are concocted differently than Western toners. Toners made in the West usually are astringent heavy, made with tea tree and witch hazel that are drying. In Korea toners are made for the purpose of hydrating and to restore the skin’s natural pH balance. Try Evoluderm Toning Lotion Normal Skins (PKR 800), it refreshes, energizes and moisturizes skin while also eliminating impurities.
Facial Essence Is Key –
What is facial essence? It is a lightweight, super hydrating liquid that helps prepare your skin for moisturizer. Facial essence is used post cleansing and toning and before moisturizer. As stated by Elle.com, if your skin is a sponge – once washed and dried, “a dry sponge cannot as easily absorb moisture compared to a slightly damp one”. Essence is that added layer that prepares the skin to absorb serums and creams. I swear by, Estee Lauder Micro Essence Skin Activating Treatment Lotion (PKR 1,799).
Facial Sheet Masks Are A Must –
Every beauty routine calls for a sheet mask because they fantastic and give your face a spa like glow from your own home. What sheet masks are most known for is their mega hydrating abilities plus all the other goodies packed in. I use Evoluderm’s Aloe Vera Moisturizing Sheet Mask made from tiny fibers not paper. At 1,000 rupees a pop, it is a little pricey, but once you use it you will see the difference in your face.
If you do all the above steps your skin will be looking like glass in no time. Beautiful, dewy, supple skin can be achieved just be patient and do all the steps.
