Fall is here, which means Winter is just around the corner. Now is the time to start changing up your makeup and skincare routines so you can be better prepared to take care of your skin during the colder, harsher months.

Do you really need to switch out your products? Yes, you pretty much do, because some things aren’t as effective in the colder periods of the year as they are in the hotter months. Our skin dries out easier, which unfortunately, could lead to flaky skin and dark circles under the eyes. Also, it could make acne even worse for those of us which battle this skin condition; the more dry our skin gets, the more our body freaks out and starts to over produce oil.

I used to be one of those people who thought my makeup and skincare could stay the same all year long. Technically, yes, you can do this, but I don’t recommend it. There are specific reasons why you should switch out your makeup and skincare products each season. This article is going to go over all the reasons why, as well as how to keep your skin looking great all Fall and Winter long.

When the  temperatures start dropping, humidity in the air sometimes gets less and less. As aggravating as humidity can be (if you’re living in a place where the air is super humid), it does help provide a certain type of moisture for our skin. Fall and winter are less humid, plus the winds are really starting to pick up and get more intense, so the winds and lack of humidity are literally the perfect storm (so to speak) to putting you on the pathway to dry skin.

Before we delve into makeup changes, we need to talk about skincare. This is the first routine which should be altered and or adapted for changing seasons. Mainly because the skin we are born with is pretty much the only skin we get, and the better kept our skin is, the better our makeup is going to look.

That being said, the products which worked to protect and nourish your skin during the hotter, summer months might not necessarily be as effective in the fall and winter. This is because spring and summer formulas are created especially for the heat (and in some cases, humidity) in mind. They are more lightweight and may have less coverage. Thicker, more heavy bodied formulas (best suited for your skin type, might I add) are better for winter since we lack the heat and humidity depending on where we live.

Before we go further, it is essential that you keep within the skincare family that is best suited to your skin needs. For those that are oily, don’t go running out and get that heavy, thick as molasses argan oil moisturizer for your face. You might end up with a case of the winter breakouts, because even though your face needs more moisture, using the wrong product for your skin type can create more problems than solutions.

If you’re oily, you probably just need to double down on a moisturizer suited for acne prone or oily skin. You might want to add a serum (if you haven’t already), or add more of the serum you’re using. Definitely make sure to keep hydrating, even if you have to warm up your water and add lemon to it. Lemon is a natural anti-bacterial agent and I find (having oily skin myself), adding lemon to my water helps to keep breakouts at bay (plus it boost my immune system). has a wide variety of skincare (and bodycare) products to help your skin look its best. One of my favorite brands that we carry is Evoluderm, a French skincare brand manufactured entirely in France. Each product contains natural and good for you ingredients suitable for the entire family. Here are a few of my favorite Evoluderm products, all available at

Evoluderm Anti-Imperfections Mattifying Moisturizer for Combination to Oily Skin

Regardless of your skin type, everyone should be using some type of moisturizer, especially when the temperatures start to drop.  Fall and winter bring less humidity, which means our skin is subject to retaining less moisture. Less moisture in the air, dryer skin; makes sense. Even oily skin can become too dry due to the colder winds and less moisture, which could lead to over-production and more breakouts. This formula contains pink grapefruit and zinc which also combats acne and bacteri

Evoluderm Moisturizing Day Care Cream:

This is a good moisturizer for normal to combination skin. It mattifies and hydrates, plus is enriched with vegetable rice powder and aloe vera extract. If you have skin that gets super chapped in the winter months, then this is going to be an amazing moisturizer for you. The aloe vera helps soothe and heal skin, especially wind-burned and chapped skin.

Evoluderm Nourishing Day Care for Dry and Sensitive Skin: This formula is a bit more heavy-bodied, because it’s for dry and sensitive skin. I would definitely keep this in my purse and apply throughout the day (as you refresh your makeup) if you are already prone to dry skin. Winter is going to dry your skin out even more, which can lead to having your face look scaly and your makeup looking patchy.

Evoluderm Sweet Almond Beauty Oil: If you have dry skin that seems to be problematic and like it’s just drinking up anything you put on it, you might need to switch to a beauty oil. I know plenty of people who have to use an oil, then apply serum, then moisturizer to lock everything in. Why does the moisturizer need to go last? Because it acts as a sealant and a barrier, since it is a heavy and thick formula. Oils and serums absorb into the skin more quickly than a cream does. If you apply your oil and then your serum (waiting around ten minutes each to absorb into skin before putting on your moisturizer), then the cream acts as a top coat and a sealant; it locks everything in and also continues to moisturize as well.

This formula is lightweight, paraben free and moisturizes and softens skin.

Zauria is another brand which  I absolutely love, and is also available exclusively at

Available exclusively at, Zauria is a brand with a mission. I had the pleasure of meeting the creators of this visionary product in person, and believe me, they are just as inspiring as the products they created.  The brand has a vision to bring their customers luxury beauty products created with mother nature’s finest ingredients. Privately owned, all of the formulas are made in small batches to ensure the highest of quality. Also, the brand is never tested on animals as well as are paraben free, sulfate free and plant based. Zauria products are made in the Golden State of California, USA.

Zauria 24K Rose Gold Beauty Oil

This is the oil which got me hooked on Zauria products, and the one I use to this day. Now, since I’m oily, I can’t use this completely all over my face because I will break out. But, I do use a tiny bit under my eyes and also on my neck and chest. I find that even though I’m oily, my neck area is much, much dryer than my face and it tends to get ridiculously scaly and gross looking. It really drive me nuts. So, I started using this oil all over my neck and chest area and finally, I found something that helps my neck look as glowing as my face.

If you’re prone to dry or normal/combo skin, this is a good formula for you to try. Keep in mind, though, that if you’re combination skin, I would use this in the areas where you are more dry rather than the oily parts. This blend is truly a botanical gift of nature containing all natural skin-loving ingredients. Vitamin and antioxidant rich with 24 K gold flakes, you are sure to get a gorgeous, healthy glow all year long with this beautiful wonder serum.

Another thing I love about Zauria is that the company uses rose oil organically grown in the Bulgarian Rose Valley. This unique environment and the process in which the roses are grown come together to cultivate the highest quality of rose oil in the entire world. Even the gold is held to the highest standard, being sourced from the USA and abiding by the strictest production purity standards, which pretty much means there are no little divits of fools gold or imposter minerals in there. It’s actual 24K gold, which is going to make your face feel bougie af and gorgeous to boot.

Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Vitamin B complex, Vitamin C, Vitamin K, Vitamin D and Omega 3, 6 and 9 work together to create a host of benefits such as anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, improves skin tone and elasticity, improves skin firmness and fights free radicals. You also get a healthy dose of Rosehip Seed Oil, the 24K Rose Gold Beauty Oil also contains Pomegranate Seed Oil, Cranberry Seed Oil and Jojoba Oil.

How to properly apply your Zauria 24K Rose Gold Beauty Oil:

As with anything, there is one hundred percent a better way to apply certain products. If you want to get the most out of your Zauria 24K Rose Gold Beauty Oil, here’s how to do it: (source: Zauria Official Blog).

One of the first things you’ll want to do is make sure you thoroughly cleanse your face. If your skin is riddled with dirt, bacteria and dead skin cells, then the benefits of your oil will be null and void. It’s just going to muddle around and mix in with all the icky, and that’s not going to do anything for your face. The last thing you want to do is layer this gorgeous oil over a dirty face. If you’ve been doing this, don’t feel bad. I used to put creams and oils (and makeup) on my face without washing it first, because I felt like my skin was already “clean.” Especially in the morning. That’s the definite time when you should wash your skin, because we get bacteria buildup when we sleep. It’s a common myth that if we wash our skin at the end of the day, we’re good until the end of the next day.

Not true. You should be washing your face at least twice a day. If you’re getting extra dirty, working outside, or sweat a lot, you can even sneak a mid-day wash in there as well. Just make sure you’re always using a moisturizer that is good for your skin to counteract the washing. Otherwise, you’ll strip too much oil from your face and cause backlash breakouts. has a wide variety of cleansers for many different skin types. Definitely put one in your cart along with your Zauria 24K Rose Gold Beauty Oil.

Your pores need to be open to better absorb the oil. Zauria recommends applying the oil post-shower or after using a facial steamer. Using a warm washcloth can also help open pores.

Massage, don’t pat the oil into your face. You’ll want to do this in an upward motion to give the elasticity a boost and to avoid pulling the skin. In fact, this is a general rule of thumb when it comes to applying any product whether it be skincare or makeup. Go upward rather than down; pulling on the skin causes wrinkles and breaks the tissues. Massaging the oils in helps make sure the product penetrates deep into the layers of your skin. It also helps improve circulation as well.

Once you’ve enriched your skin with this gorgeous product, lie down and relax for at least ten to fifteen minutes. This gives the product time to set into your skin.
