Summer is almost over, and it is time to start gearing our skincare routine toward fall and winter.
When I worked for a makeup counter, I would often have customers start popping by my bay for skincare updates around mid-July. Most of my customers had already been practicing a solid skincare routine for years, so they already knew what they wanted/needed.
I’m sure by now you’re asking the question: “What do I need to switch out or change up to get my skin ready for Fall and Winter?”
Here are a few ways you can level up your skincare routine for the colder temps to come:
1. Add an Exfoliant
I tend to use an exfoliator year round because I have oily skin. However, some people choose to skip the exfoliant during the summer months. Our skin can feel more sensitive and tender because of extra exposure to the sun, so if you’ve shelved the exfoliant during that time, good for you! Your skin is telling you what it needs, and you’ve listened.
Now it’s time to pull our polishing friend out of the cupboard and put it back to work. Two great exfoliating products I use and love are Evoluderm’s Exfoliating Cream Huile Precise and Exfoliating Cleansing Gel. The Huile Precise is more suitable for dry skin since it contains Argan Oil, but I like to use it once a week during the colder months to add moisture. Even if you’re oily skinned like I am, giving your face a nice moisture bath once a week is a good routine to get into during the fall and winter. Our skin gets chapped easier than we think, especially when exposed to cold wind. The Exfoliating Cleansing Gel is my favorite product that Evoluderm offers; it is suited for oily skin types like mine. The grapefruit acts as an astringent and anti-bacterial while the exfoliating beads slough off dead skin and removes impurities.
Other great exfoliators offered by Evoluderm are this Peach Face Scrub, Shea Face Scrub ( which is going to be extremely moisturizing since it harnesses the power of Shea ), and this Aloe Vera Scrub ( great for oily or sensitive skin ).
2. Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize
When temperatures drop, our natural instinct is to bundle up to protect our bodies. The same applies to our face; we want to be sure and “bundle up” our face during the colder months. Swapping out your lighter summer moisturizer for a heavier bodied one is going to help provide extra moisture that your skin really needs. Winter means less humidity in the atmosphere, which is why our skin feels so dry during wintertime ( hence why lips feel more “chapped” when it’s cold ). This Almond Face and Body Cream by Evoluderm is a great addition to your winter regime.
Note: if you’re oily, you want to make sure you’re using an oil-control formula. If you’re like me and you’re apprehensive about switching your gel-based moisturizer for a cream ( since it can cause breakouts with some people ), then add a facial spray like this Evoluderm Anti-Aging Facial Water Mist. It contains Hyaluronic Acid, which is a skincare superstar that binds and locks in moisture to the skin. You can also add more sheet masks to your weekly routine, like this Evoluderm Moisturizing Sheet Mask with Aloe Vera. I use a lot of Aloe Vera in my skincare routine, because it moisturizes without clogging up my pores.
3. More Sheet Masks
I tend to do at least one sheet mask a week regardless of what season it is. However, you might want to add two or three sheet masks a week to your regimen if you’re prone to dry skin. I recommend Evoluderm’s Anti-Aging Sheet Mask and Detox Sheet Mask. You don’t need to use the detox sheet mask every week unless you want to; I would use it a couple of times a month if you aren’t prone to breakouts or oil. If you’re oily, then once or twice a week won’t hurt as long as you’re still hydrating appropriately.
