Winter Lip Care Tips

It’s important to care for your lips all year round, but especially during colder weather. Image Credit: Perfect 365.

Now that we are heading into winter and the temperatures keep dropping, it’s more important than ever to take care of our skin, especially our lips. I’m the first to admit, I have to work really hard to remember to pamper my lips. They tend to get forgotten and before I know it, they’re chapped, peeling and looking really unsightly.

Our lips are very delicate and very prone to damage and dehydration. When they are properly hydrated, they look full and plump. However, when lips are denied hydration, they can and will shrink and dry out. This leads to chapped lips, scaly skin, and cracking. The cracking part is extremely painful in some cases, especially if the affected area lies around the corners of the mouth.

The  skin on our lips is possibly the thinnest layer of skin on our body. This is why lips are naturally pink, peach or red and why the blood vessels are more visible. The lips don’t have oil glands, and that makes them even more prone to becoming dried out and damaged.

Here are some tips on how to keep your lips in tip top shape during the cooler season:

  1. Exfoliate your lips once or twice a week using a really good sugar scrub. You can either make one at home, or purchase one. If your lips are severely dry or chapped, you can do this three times a week to get them back into healthy shape, but after that I wouldn’t go over twice a week. You don’t want to damage your skin.
  2. Stay hydrated. I know this is difficult to do, especially if it’s cooler. If you don’t want to drink cold water, boil some on the stove in a kettle, and mix the hot water with cold water. It will create a nice lukewarm drink that will be easier to tolerate. Add honey to help boost your immune system.
  3. Invest in a good lip balm or set of lip balms. I’m really a fan of EOS Lip Balms, because they’re one of the best quality lip balm products on the market and they last a long time.

EOS is unique because they use ethically sourced ingredients in their famous formulas. Their ingredients include Shea Butter, Cocoa Butter, Beeswax, Olive Oil, Jojoba Oil, Sunflower Seed Oil, Aloe Vera, Coconut Oil, Castor Seed Oil and Avocado Oil. These are all known to be among the most hydrating and moisturizing ingredients on the planet ( if not the most). Not only does the company offer its signature round lip balms, but also hand lotions and other moisturizing products as well.

Some of my favorite EOS formulations are Peppermint Mocha,  Crystal Lip Balm in Melon Blossom, and Vanilla Mint. I would also recommend stocking up on the EOS hand lotions as well. These will help keep your hands moisturized and healthy all winter long. One of my favorites is Cucumber.  All of these can be purchased at! I definitely recommend collecting them all!
